Sanxenxo and surroundings
Sanxenxo lies on the Pontevedra estuary, in the heart of the Rías Baixas. It is one of Galicia’s best-known beach destinations, with a mild climate, great food and plenty to see within a short drive.
Beaches
- Silgar: Sanxenxo’s town beach, next to the promenade and the marina.
- Areas: a wide, family-friendly beach with calm water.
- Montalvo: surrounded by pine woods, wilder and with lovely sunsets.
Day trips
- Ons Island: part of the Atlantic Islands National Park. In season, boats leave from Sanxenxo and Portonovo (visitor numbers are limited and a permit must be requested in advance).
- O Grove: famous for its seafood and for A Toxa island.
- Albariño wine route: wineries and vineyards of O Salnés, about half an hour away.
- Pontevedra: a charming pedestrian old town, around 20 minutes away.
Getting here
- By car: take the AP-9 motorway to Pontevedra and then the Salnés expressway.
- By plane: the nearest airports are Vigo and Santiago de Compostela.
- By train: the nearest station is Pontevedra, with buses and taxis to Sanxenxo.
